Sasquad hikes are selected for their uniqueness, solitude, and honoring local folklore. If you are looking for the most popular hikes, there are plenty of other websites that can help with that. We are looking for the trails less traveled. If you have ideas about hikes that should be on the page, let us know! If your hike is featured, we will send you free merch.

This 13.8-mile, strenuous, loop in Great Smoky Mountains National Park is well worth the 3,677 ft elevation climb. You are likely to have most of the route all to yourself as you pass through forested trail, by running water, and to amazing vistas of endless rolling hills. There are also great rock formations along the way. It is very rare to find a low traveled hike in a popular national park. If this one is in your ability group, don’t skip it! Read more.

This 1.8-mile, moderate out-and-back, trail is on the list because you can cool off in the clear pool of water at the end of the trail. There is a ladder to climb to get to the end, which we also love. The forest trail to the end is also picturesque, especially if there is a low fog in the forest. If you go in the morning, at dusk, or a weekday, you might have this pool all to yourself. Read more.
