This hike is one of our favorites! Hikers will embark on a 3-mile loop above volcanic rock. This trail will take you along a crater’s rim, through the rainforest, and past steaming volcanic vents. Head to this one in the early morning to avoid big crowds and get a decent parking spot. Read more.

Kalalau Trail, Kauai

This 11-mile one way, or 22 miles out-and-back, hike is moderate to strenuous. It is well worth the effort, as hikers will be able to walk along the rugged coastline of Kauai, pass through rainforest, and have breathtaking views of the ocean. Hikers will also pass through five valleys along the way before ending at, the sometimes secluded, Kalalau Beach. Hikers need a permit to enter Hā’ena State Park, where the hike starts. Read more.
